James' manager is international GT racing driver, Tim Sugden.
Tim is a distinguished racing driver, and made an early impact by becoming British Junior Karting Champion and captain of the British team. He progressed through Formula Ford, Formula Renault and Formula 3000 before being signed by the factory BMW junior touring car team. Driving in the British Touring Car Championship, he won races for not only BMW but Toyota and Vauxhall.
In 1997 he switched to sports cars, winning the British GT series. For the following year he teamed up with Steve O'Rourke in a McLaren F1, retaining the title, but the highlight was a superb fourth place at the Le Mans 24-hr classic, the highest-placed privately-entered car.
Tim still races in GT cars internationally but is increasingly devoting his energies to managing a stable of young drivers headed by James Walker.
Derek Warwick competed in 147 Grand Prix over 13 years. Unusually, he began his motor sport career in stock cars, becoming the Super Stock world champion in 1972. He made the move into circuit racing in 1975, progressing through Formula Ford - in which he won 33 races and became European champion in 1976 - to Formula 3 in 1977.
The following year he fought Nelson Piquet for the two British F3 series, winning one and finishing as runner-up in the other, and in 1980 was runner-up in the European Formula 2 championship. His team, Toleman, then entered Formula 1, taking Warwick with them, but in 1981 and 82 the cars were completely uncompetitive. The next season was different however, and Warwick had four points finishes.
For 1984 and 85 he was signed by the works Renault team, and was second twice, third twice, and led one race. After Renault he had stints with the Brabham, Arrows, Lotus and Footwork Arrows teams. But probably his biggest success was in sports cars, winning the Le Mans 24 Hours race and World Sportscar Championship in 1992.
After retiring from F1 in 1993 he returned to racing in British Touring Cars, winning for the first time in 1998 in a Vauxhall. He then retired from driving altogether to concentrate on Triple Eight Race Engineering, which he co-founded and which won the BTCC for Vauxhall under Warwick's team management. In 2003 he set up Triple Eight Australia, to run works Ford Falcons in the country's V8 Supercar series from this season. In the same year he sold his successful UK motor retail group but kept the dealership in Jersey where he is now based. Warwick has now returned to the cockpit in the Grand Prix Masters series where he is as competitive as ever.
Derek is a great mentor for James and has provided valuable advice to him over the last few years.
